If you have been waiting to exhale this is a good all around location simply to
breathe slowly and release. Accessible only by ferry, Breathe is located at the
Daufuskie Resort off the coast of Hilton Head Island. After checking in, you head
for your treatment in your personal golf cart. (Only residents are permitted cars).
The fifteen minute ride putts-putts along a wooded path framed by centuries' old
oak trees. Relax in the genteel elegance of the spa's lounge or flop in a rocker
and sit awhile on the wrap around porch.Breathe is everything a good spa should be -
quite and beautiful. There is also plenty of lemon water and herbal teas to sop on,
and I nice selection of retail products including books.

The readers of MSN Money recently submitted their nominations for the
Top 10 Best 2nd Home Markets and Daufuskie Island ranked at the top of
the list. Readers nominated their favorite special mountain
retreat, beach resort or lakeside getaway and Daufuskie emerged as one of
the top contenders. According to the survey, Daufuskie's appeal included

Resort Renovations and Upgrades Continue at Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa!
Property upgrades and renovations are still underway at Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe
Spa as management continues to add amenities and services to enhance the overall guest
experience. Recent upgrades include: Stoddard Bistro- What was once the resort's fine dining restaurant has
taken on a bistro-style atmosphere, offering charming surroundings, floor to ceiling windows
and an eclectic menu rich with Asian-infused Mediterranean influences and regional favorites.
Specialties include a contemporary array of fresh seafood, sushi, pasta and beef specialties.
The Bistro also offers an extensive wine list of classic varietals and wines by the glass.
Renovations and upgrades included new table top settings, wooden blinds, new color scheme,
additional artwork, new wine room, alternative jazz music and specialty uniforms for the
staff including bistro aprons.
Kid's Kottage - The resort's Kid's Kottage has been relocated and rebuilt on the other side
of the Beach Club. Featuring approximately 2000 square feet of play space and new color schemes,
the resort also upgraded all new soft goods to include carpeting, furniture, window treatments and new
toys. The children's program has also been redesigned to include nature walks and Island
history tours. The Kid's Kottage is available for children ages 4 through 12, and is offered Wednesday through
Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in season. Cost is $70 per child for a full day which
includes lunch and $37 for a ½ day.
The resort also offers a Saturday night program from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Cost is $45
and includes beachfront bonfires and s'more roasts.
General Store - The island's quaint General Store, located adjacent to the Melrose
Mansion on Beach Lane, has upgraded its entire inventory and added a deli display
for guests to order sandwiches. The General Store's outdoor patio also received a face lift and has a brand new exterior
with spectacular views facing the Atlantic. The General Store also offers a full-service
grocery program for guests who can order their groceries on-line via the resort's website, prior to their arrival, or
they can call the resort directly and order. Both options allow for groceries to be
delivered to the guest room prior to arrival for a nominal charge. The General Store upgraded their wine selection and also offers a
variety of gourmet crackers and cheeses. They also feature a selection of logoed
tennis, golf and Breathe Spa wear for men and women.
Miscellaneous Enhancements - Additional enhancements include a soft good room renovation
in the Melrose Mansion, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of '05; expansion
of the Beach Club kitchen including new restaurant table top enhancements and décor;
additional floral pathways, defined bedding, and improved grassy areas on the back lawn
of the Mansion which is a popular backdrop for hundreds of weddings; and minor renovations
of public areas including the resort's famed lobby. The resort now also offers a myriad of
vacation rental and real estate management opportunities.
